Life Education Van

In Week One of this Term, we had Harold and Corinne come and teach us about the brain.

This week we visited Harold and Corinne in the life Education Van. 

Something new things I learned were that

1.  the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body and the right side of your brain controls the left side. 

2. Your brain controls a lot of things.

3. The back of your brain controls your vision.

FRIENDSHIP

This week, our focus as a class has been friendship and what it means to be a good friend.
We wrote an acrostic poem together about what we thought being a friend meant.

Friendly, fun, fabulous

Respectful, reliable

Independence, inclusive

Excellence

Nice

Don’t hurt each other, don’t say mean things

Sharing, success, stand tall

Helpful

If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.

Positive, polite, play together

We then practised cooperation and wrote about what it meant to be a friend in pairs. Here are some of our explanations about what friendship looks like, sounds like and feels like.

A friend is a person that wants to play with you. 

A friend looks like a person that is kind. 

A friend is a person that says nice words. 

A friend feels good and confident, friendly and nice. 

A friend is important because you need people to play with. 

Oliver and Anica

A friend is someone who is not a family member but is still important to you. A friend looks like not hurting each other and playing with people who are sad and alone. A friend sounds like not hurting each other's feelings and not saying rude things. It sounds like asking if they're ok and encouraging them. Being a friend feels like showing your friend that you care about them and taking good care of them when somebody is being mean. 

To have a friend you have to be a good friend too.

A friend is someone who is trustworthy and will stand up for you but they normally aren't in your family. A good friend looks like helping someone who is sad, inviting someone into your game and holding a friend's hand. Being a friend can sound like encouraging others, telling funny jokes and sometimes quietly giggling. Friendship feels like a flower blooming in the spring. It feels confident, respected and joyful. To be a good friend you need to show all of these things. 

Eve, Mika and Smrithi 

A friend is someone who is not in your family but you choose to hang out with and you think they're nice. A good friend looks like being kind and showing RICE (Respect, Independence, Cooperation and Excellence). A good friend sounds like someone who uses manners. A good friend shows respect when the other person talks. It feels like someone who listens to you and thinks you're a good person. 

It is important to have a friend so you won't be lonely. 

Will and Felix 

A friend is someone that is not in your family but is someone that is important to you. Friendship looks like being respectful to someone else's toys and not being lazy and making your friend tidy up for you. Being a friend sounds like  saying "are you okay?"when they are sad, being polite and not saying mean things. A friend feels like being respectful and trusting each other. It feels like not hurting other people's feelings. 

To have a good friend means you also have to be a good friend as well.

That explains it!

I went to the doctor he x-rayed my head

he stared for a moment and here’s what he said

‘’ It looks like you’ve got a, barrel in there

an xbox, an airplane, a peach,a pear,

And also an ape, an arrow, a shoe,

An old pair of sunglasses, and some fake doggy doo,

A t-shirt, some shorts, a table and chairs,

Some salmon, a camora,some old underwear,

A penny, a pencil, pen,

A hairy canary, a hammer, hen,
an oven, a bomb, and a duck,

A missile, a bicycle, a truck

With all that junk that you have in your head

it’s kind of amazing you got out of bed!”

a triangle, a window,a small baby hen,

some tigers, a plier, a person, a duck,

a bag, and a big red truck.

With all of the junk inside of your head,

It’s kind of amazing you could get out of bed!

Marvellous Me!

Our first piece of writing this year was all about how Marvellous we are. There are some excerpts here but feel free to come into our class to see the full published work.

Marvellous me!

My favourite place to go is to my friends house because we play with her Sylvanian families. Sometimes we go to the park and walk her dog biscuit.  

My favourite thing to do when I'm not at school is  going to Glenfield pools because I like going down the hydra-slide.

It makes me feel good when my Mum buys me something from the store. It makes me happy.

I worry about when my dad forgets to bring the water home.

I'm looking forward to learning is about under the sea animals because they are so unique. 

A good time I had with my family  was going kaewe lakes  it is a place where you get a cabin to stay in and while I was there I went swimming  in the lake. It was really fun.

I sometimes wonder if my dad will ever bring home the water because I'm so thirsty.

If I was an animal I would be a hamster in a little tube cage with food and water.

Something I would like you to know about me is I love to play outside and inside because it’s really fun.

My favourite place to go is Waikaremoana because I like going on holiday camping there with all of my cousins and there is really big lake.

My favourite thing to do when I am not at school is going in deep swimming pools with friends and parents and going off diving boards also going down super long hydra-slides and doing flips into the water.

I makes me feel good when I get to see my brothers and we go on holiday.

I worry about my school stuff when half of of it is at my mums house and they other half is at my dad's house.

I`m looking forward to learning all of my times tables because I do test at home a good time I had with my family is christmas day all my cousins were at long bay beach.

I sometimes wonder when I am going to my dads house when I am at my mums house because I miss them.

If I was an animal I would be a pterodactyl because they can fly and still stay on the ground.

Something I would like you to know about me is I have 2 brothers and 1 sister.

My favourite place to go is the beach because I go is the beach because I can play there.

My favourite thing to do when I not at school is goIng to my pool. When I am  hot I go to my pool for a swim.

It makes me feel good when I go beach  when I go to the beach because  I can make a sandball  to throw at a rock. It is fun.

I worry about when someone is bossy to me.

I am looking forward to Learning to maths so I can get better.

A good time with my family was the beach because I made the best sand ball. My Mum, brothers and friends all jumped off a tree and one of them slipped. We were all laughing.

My favourite place to go is Disneyland because we can eat candy floss.Even they have merry-go-rounds!Did you know that at night merry-go-rounds can sparkle.From Disneyland you can see buildings sparkle and it is spectacular!

My favourite thing to do when I am not at school is lots of holiday parties!Like playing games and having fun!

It makes me feel good when it’s my birthday and when I get a certificate.  

I worry about when my mum gets angry at my sister and because she cries a lot and it’s so annoying but my mum is still angry at my sister.

I’m looking forward to learning more of how to be in a production because I want to be an main actor in it.

A good time with my family is when we have a trip to Kaitaia where my friends live. And her house is so close to the beach and I can go with my family too.

Sometimes I wonder that when my friends come over to a sleepover we might fight and I won’t have any friends anymore.

If I was an animal I would be a Tiger because Tigers are very strong and they can jump very high and jump over our heads!

Something I would like you to know about me is that Japanese is so hard and English is much easier.

My favourite place to go is Huntly because I get to pop wheelies on the road with my cousin. 

My favourite thing to do when I am not at school is going for kinas. Big and fat juicy kinas. 

It makes me feel good when I play on my drums with My Dad.

A good time I had with my family is going to the beach with my dad.

My favourite place to go is home because I like playing with the puppy and my brother with my toys.

My favourite thing to do when I am not at school is playing minecraft and my toys because its fun.

It makes me feel good when I’m swimming in the pool because it’s warm. Sometimes I worry about standing up in class because I just don’t like it.

I’m looking forward to learning more maths because its fun.

A good time I had with my family is when we were in Fiji because it was

relaxing and we were spending time together.
