Being Brainy

We had Being Brainy come in and spend an afternoon with them. Here are some reflections of what we did.

On Monday we had a presentation from Being Brainy and we had the chance to touch brains. We got a picture of a star and we had to look at it in a mirror and trace it. Then we had to do the buttoning up competition and we had to see if we could button up a shirt. We had to not use the hand we write with.

On Monday we had a presentation from Being Brainy.
Some of the things we did were
1. trace a star using a mirror
2. Button shirts with one hand
3. Touch a rat, cat and human brain.
Something I found interesting was the brains. The lady helped us learn all about different brains.
My favourite part was the star trace because it was so fun.

On Monday we had a presentation from being brainy. Some of the things we did was touching brains. We touched a cat brain, a human brain, a rat brain and a monkey brain. They were a bit heavy for me  but I am heavier than all four brains.
Something I found interesting was the jellybean experiment because I was quite good at stopping at the right time.

On Monday we had a presentation for being brainy.
Some of the things we did were
1. look at and touch brains
2. The button it up challenge: This was that you had to use your left hand to button the t-shirt if you are right handed and your right hand if you are left handed.
3. look at cells
4. drop jellybeans for reaction time( and eat it)
5. and talk about the human brain
6. The star challenge: you had a template of a star and you needed to trace between the lines but you were only allowed to use a mirror.
My favourite part was drawing the star challenge because I like challenging stuff.
Something I  found interesting was looking at the cells because they look like aliens!

Our winter

We wrote some sense poems and descriptions about our Winter experiences. We focused on interesting vocabulary and adjectives to help the reader experience what our senses experience in Winter.

I can see bare trees with no delicate leaves as they have disappeared into thin air.
I can hear absolutely nothing but a few children chattering to each other and my own feet treading lightly on the hard concrete path.
I taste creamy hot chocolate burning my hot tongue. I smell a delicious, tempting roast chicken with a tender middle.
I feel the brisk wind nipping my skin harshly.
By Mika

I see white fluffy snow like cotton and thick fog like a blanket.
I hear jingly icicles, chirping birds and a splash of puddles.
I smell the scent of baking, noodles and damp air through the house.
I taste pumpkin and chicken soup, hot chocolate and cookies.
I feel my warm blanket around me when I am freezing and cold.
By Veronica

The white fluffy snow looks like a lot of cotton balls stuck together.
The sinking of the snowy foot prints makes a sound of 'poof, poof' on each foot step.
I cant resist the smell of my mum's corn soup.
I can taste the damp air and going down my throat.
I can feel the freezing air sucking up my warmth.
By Anne

I see thick fog like a blanket sitting on my backyard and rain like a flood is going to come.
I hear birds chirping loudly as the alarm clock from my bedroom, car engines coming from the road outside my house.
I smell the scent of hot chocolate spreading through the house. Breakfast for us, spreading butter on the toast.
I taste pumpkin soup spreading through my mouth and crunchy cookies with chocolate chips on top.
I feel warmth sliding down my throat as I drink warm fluffy milk and coldness freezing my hands.

I see thick fog like a blanket.
I hear jingly icicles, chirping birds and splashing puddles.
I smell chicken soup and the scent of hot chocolate running to my nose.
When I wake up, I taste the noodle soup my sister is making.
I feel the cold fluffy snow going in my window and onto my face.

I see thick fog like a blanket of fluff floating
I hear crashing rain drops dropping on the deck as I walk outside.
I smell burning sausages on the barbecue ready to eat, nice and hot.
I taste the cold air slowly going in and out of my mouth.
I feel freezing as I hop into bed with my warm fluffy blanket wrapped around me cosy and warm.
