The Button Box

Our Production was amazing! Enjoy some of our reflections about the experience of preparing for Show. 

This Term we are performing a production called the Button Box. My role is dancing to Paradise Island on stage. My favourite part of the show is when Grandma and Granddad dance to the Belly Button Boogie because they are very funny. The  hardest thing about being in the show is dancing on stage because it's nerve-wracking in front of our parents. I really like the Button Box show because it is very interesting and also very funny.

This Term we are performing a production called the Button Box. My role is dancing in He Waka Eke Noa. My favourite part of the show is the dancing because it has different moves than just dance. The hardest thing about being in the show is waiting for our turn because it is boring. I really like the Button Box because there are many interesting dances and lines.

My favourite part of the show is when Grandad says "I am feeling peckish" because it is funny. The hardest thing about being in the show is singing because I keep yawning. I really like the Button Box show because I perform 5 times.

The hardest thing about the show is I want to go to the library and it can be boring. I really like the Button Box Show because there was a very funny song called the Belly Button Boogie.

My favourite part of this term was dancing in the Button Box Production. I danced in the Bombay Button. I liked the way my skirt was white. I felt happy and excited every night.

Museum Trip

On Wednesday, we went to the Auckland Museum and had an amazing time. Enjoy some of our videos about our favourite parts!

What was your favourite part of the museum?

"My favourite part was seeing all the carved wood things and making the instruments and the fans and also seeing the big canoe."

"The volcano because it was really fun when it erupted."

On Wednesday 9 of may at 8:45 Room 17 and Room 8 had a great trip to the museum. We made a special Maori instrument and learned how to play it. We also saw the Weird and Wonderful Exhibit which had stuffed birds, and insects. Then, after that, I saw three stuffed skinks and two stuffed geckos in the bottles. I then looked up, and saw more stuffed birds flying over my head. It was such an amazing sight. I saw kiwis as well, three of them. I also saw the very big albatrosses. The albatross has a wingspan of three metres.They spend most of their life at sea. I really like the auckland Museum by now. After lunch, I learned about Anne Frank, and her family. They hid in the back of their house for a few years. She was very sad because she could not go out to play because it was the war time.

After our amazing drum experience we have been looking at how music and drums have and still impact our society. We have been researching drums and have even had the chance to make our own.

Swimming Carnival

A few weeks ago we had our Middle Syndicate Swimming Carnival. It was a fantastic day and the swimmers did really well so we wanted to document this event. We had already done recounts before which meant that this time we could step up our writing a bit more. We focused on using our senses so that our audience - YOU! - would be interested and would really understand what it felt, looked or sounded like for us. Enjoy reading some of our recounts. See if you can imagine what it was like.

The Swimming Carnival

I was nervous because the Middle’s swimming carnival had started. We were all very excited and were all cheering for our friends. It was very exciting and I felt nervous. The winners had to stand at the other side for people to clap their hands for them. When it was my turn I slid into the pool. The water was warmer than the spa. My first race was freestyle and arm stroke. I was the first one to win. My second race was backstroke with arm circles. I was first again. The last race was dolphin dives. Guess what! I was the first again. At the end of the swimming carnival I felt very happy because I always won.

I was so excited and proud on the 7^th of March as it was the Swimming Carnival. All the middles were excited and I felt strong. I splashed and swam as fast as I could. As I turned my head to breathe, I saw kids and parents cheering. My hand touched the wall and I stood up. I came 1^st place. I felt so strong. I went to the the next round. I came first too but with Smrithi. Swimming in the Swimming Carnival was like saying thanks to the swimming instructors for everything. It was amazing and I loved it so much because I like being in the water.

The Swimming Carnival

I was so excited the day had begun. On the 7^th of March it was the swimming carnival. We got changed and we jumped in the swimming pool. The water was warm like bath water. As I put the noodle behind my back I kicked off and I was the first one back. The next race was kicking backwards with a board. I found it easy because I had practised. The swimming carnival was so amazing because it was easy.

The Swimming Carnival

I was very nervous when I sat at the bench at the Swimming Carnival. I was excited. I felt cold because the wind was blowing on me. When I jumped in the pool I felt like I had jumped into a puddle of ice. When I was getting ready for my race, I splashed inside to keep warm. I liked it when I got up after the race and everybody was cheering. I jumped out and I sat on the wet bench. I wiped myself with my grey towel. I was shivering. I heard Miss Rodger call out my next race and start it by clapping the starter. It was loud so I swam as fast as I could. I was the third one. I got up and helped the teacher get the board that I was using. I retuned to the bench and my damp towel. I enjoyed the Swimming Carnival so I could get better at swimming.

The Swimming Carnival

On the 7th March it was the swimming carnival and all of the classes were there and Miss Rodger had the clapper.Then Mrs Roding wrote on everybody’s hands Then Miss Rodger said my number. I hopped in and it was freezing cold so I swam faster to get warmer. I won the first round. The next race was dolphin diving.  Found the dolphin dive hard but I enjoyed it. The final round was hugging a board and kicking backwards. I liked it because I got to lie down on my back. The swimming carnival was fantastic because it had different events.

Week One Highlights

Here are some of the highlights of our first week. Enjoy reading some of our reflections on the beginning of 2018.

We started swimming!

This is my first week in Room 17 for 2018. I am now in Year 3. On my first day I felt excited because I'm here with my friend. Something I enjoyed is buddy class because they are cute. Something I have found difficult is learning people's names because they are new. Something I am looking forward to is swimming because it is very hot!

This is my first week in Room 17 for 2018. I am now in Year 3. On my first day I felt curious because I wanted to know how Room 17 worked. Something I enjoyed is meeting my transition buddy. Something I have found difficult is keeping up with work because I am a slow snail. Something I am looking forward to is learning with Mrs Trumath because it's fun learning new things.

This is my first week in Room 17 for 2018. I am now in Year 4. On my first day I felt nervous because there were some new people It was also interesting because there were some new wet day monitors and the new principal. I found it difficult to do some much writing. I also found it difficult to do the Powhiri because it was in the Maori language.
