Being Brainy

We had Being Brainy come in and spend an afternoon with them. Here are some reflections of what we did.

On Monday we had a presentation from Being Brainy and we had the chance to touch brains. We got a picture of a star and we had to look at it in a mirror and trace it. Then we had to do the buttoning up competition and we had to see if we could button up a shirt. We had to not use the hand we write with.

On Monday we had a presentation from Being Brainy.
Some of the things we did were
1. trace a star using a mirror
2. Button shirts with one hand
3. Touch a rat, cat and human brain.
Something I found interesting was the brains. The lady helped us learn all about different brains.
My favourite part was the star trace because it was so fun.

On Monday we had a presentation from being brainy. Some of the things we did was touching brains. We touched a cat brain, a human brain, a rat brain and a monkey brain. They were a bit heavy for me  but I am heavier than all four brains.
Something I found interesting was the jellybean experiment because I was quite good at stopping at the right time.

On Monday we had a presentation for being brainy.
Some of the things we did were
1. look at and touch brains
2. The button it up challenge: This was that you had to use your left hand to button the t-shirt if you are right handed and your right hand if you are left handed.
3. look at cells
4. drop jellybeans for reaction time( and eat it)
5. and talk about the human brain
6. The star challenge: you had a template of a star and you needed to trace between the lines but you were only allowed to use a mirror.
My favourite part was drawing the star challenge because I like challenging stuff.
Something I  found interesting was looking at the cells because they look like aliens!

The Button Box

Our Production was amazing! Enjoy some of our reflections about the experience of preparing for Show.

This Term we are performing a production called the Button Box. My role is dancing to Paradise Island on stage. My favourite part of the show is when Grandma and Granddad dance to the Belly Button Boogie because they are very funny. The  hardest thing about being in the show is dancing on stage because it's nerve-wracking in front of our parents. I really like the Button Box show because it is very interesting and also very funny.

The hardest thing about being in the show is waiting for our turn because it is boring. I really like the Button Box because there are many interesting dances and lines.

Museum Trip

On Wednesday, we went to the Auckland Museum and had an amazing time. Enjoy some of our videos about our favourite parts!

What was your favourite part of the museum?

"My favourite part was seeing all the carved wood things and making the instruments and the fans and also seeing the big canoe."
Breanna

"The volcano because it was really fun when it erupted."
Eve

"When I went in the volcano room, because when the ground shakes it was so wobbly and I was standing up and it felt so cool."
Ayla

"My favourite part is the volcano one because it has a little bit of lava and fake smoke."
Anica

On Wednesday 9 of may at 8:45 Room 17 and Room 8 had a great trip to the museum. We made a special Maori instrument and learned how to play it. We also saw the Weird and Wonderful Exhibit which had stuffed birds, and insects. Then, after that, I saw three stuffed skinks and two stuffed geckos in the bottles. I then looked up, and saw more stuffed birds flying over my head. It was such an amazing sight. I saw kiwis as well, three of them. I also saw the very big albatrosses. The albatross has a wingspan of three metres. They spend most of their life at sea. I really like the auckland Museum by now. After lunch, I learned about Anne Frank, and her family. They hid in the back of their house for a few years. She was very sad because she could not go out to play because it was the war time.

If I was the Principal of Sunnybrae...

A couple of times a week, in the Middle Syndicate, we do a 'quick write.' This is where we have 4 minutes to write about a chosen topic.  One of our sentence starters this week was 'If I was the Principal of Sunnybrae.'  Last week our new principal came to visit our class and asked if we had any ideas for her. We hope you enjoy reading some of our suggestions!

If I was the principal of Sunnybrae I would try to give people extra break because when they come back they can concentrate better on their work.
- Riyan

If I was the principal of Sunnybrae I would let the teacher know that she could choose what her class could do. She also must make writing five minutes but only if she chose to. I would let only 20 people in each class.
- Ayla

If I was the principal of Sunnybrae I would get an imagination room for kids so they can spread their imagination to the teachers.
